The Benefits Of Turtle: Turtle is commonly known as soft-shelled tortoise. Its tasty meat is rich in protein and often it is regarded as one of the tonic dish. It's meat, head, fat, eggs and shell helps to improve the health of patients who suffered from the deficiency of vital energy, anaemia, chronic diseases, dysentery,... etc. Even the male reproductive organs can be eaten like meat. When I was at the age of 12 years old, I would help my late father to push little cart and sell turtle soup at Tai Seng area. From the initial stall at Macpherson of nearly 20 years old to the current specialized shop inside Lorong 21 of Geylang, I had established the name for its superb culinary skills for turtle soup. The more than 50 years soup recipe which was perfected by my father, is still currently being used for the making of turtle soup. With over 20 types of Chinese herbs used into making the soup, it is surprising to know that the soup was not overpowered by the typical taste of herbs but leaves a salty-sweet after taste instead. |
